Palmetto Roofers brings you the latest tips for saving money. Avoid making this costly mistake most homeowners make after they incur storm damage. Here's the transcript from the video:
(00:13): Hey, what's up guys? This is TJ with Palmetto Roofers and I'm sitting in the mobile office, aka the work truck. The life blood of the roofer is in his truck. This is the only place we can sit for a minute, it's quiet enough, and we can actually talk. I'm sitting in a parking lot. I'm not driving, so don't worry.
(00:32): I wanted to jump on here and take a moment to talk with homeowners about your residential roof, and if you think that you perhaps have an insurance claim, what you should do. So the moment that you believe that you're having an issue with your roof, you know, there was a wind storm, there was a hail storm, there was something going on, I'm going to tell you what not to do.
(00:55): I just left a job where a gentleman called us out about three to four months after the possible storm in question where he had some pretty high winds, there was definitely hail, and he decided that he was going to take care of some stuff around there himself, and then realize later down the road that getting on the roof on his 10, 12 pitch on his two story house just wasn't for him.
(01:25): So what did he do? He said, "Oh man, I had a lot of damage, the siding, cracked siding. I'm a pretty handy guy, so I just went down to the store, bought some siding. I crawled up there and I repaired all of it. I tore off the old, I put on the new. I walked around to some of the areas where it wasn't completely destroyed and I caulked all the seams and popped everything back in place. I pressure washed and made everything look nice. And just been slowly fixing it, replaced a garage door that was pretty beat up, and now I think I'm ready to get the roof replaced. It's definitely damaged, and I'm ready to get you guys to come out here and do it."
(02:05): Well, let me tell you something. The first thing that your insurance adjuster is going to come out and look for is collateral damage. And if you've already replaced all the collateral damage and we can't prove to them that that was damaged in the storm, it goes against you. So it's working backwards.
(02:23): So if anything, please don't make any repairs on your own. Get in touch with a professional. Let someone come out and take a look. Palmetto Roofers does this for free. We'll come out. We'll walk around. We'll look for collateral damage. We'll get on the roof. We'll mark up the roof. We'll see if we can find any damage to support a claim to your insurance company. And if we believe that there is damage, then we'll let you know and you can notify your insurance, and then we can work together. And we will come alongside you and work alongside the adjusters and your insurance company all the way from start to finish, and to make sure that if something's damaged that needs to be replaced repair, it gets replaced to repaired.
(03:01): So don't make that common mistake. "Hey, I'll come out here and I'll fix a little bit of stuff," and then realize, "Hey, now I need to get the help of a professional," because you just cost yourself money. Those things you fixed, you probably could have had a professional do and your insurance would have covered them as well. But even if they didn't, let's take that out of the picture, that damage helps paint the picture so that the insurance company can see that you had damage from a storm.
(03:31): Okay? So it's not just black and white. We can't just walk up on the roof and say, "Hey, look, here's some damage, here's some damage." If they don't see the collateral, a lot of times you're not going to get the claim approved.
(03:42): So we're here to help you. It does not cost you anything. It's the smartest thing you could do, is the moment you think you have an issue, pick up your phone and call Palmetto Roofers, or go to https://palmettoroofers.com and fill out the form on our website. Someone will be in touch with you the same day, I promise. And when we show up, we'll bring a Coke.
(04:04): You guys enjoy the rest of your day. Like I said, visit us on the web, https://palmettoroofers.com. We look forward to working with you and we hope that you don't make this costly mistake.

Checkout the latest video from Palmetto Roofers on TPO Installation. Here's the transcript from the video:
0:00 Hey, what's up guys? This TJ with Palmetto Roofers. Today we're in Inman, South Carolina, doing a TPO replacement roof. Just a quick fix, kind of coming in behind and trying to get the building owner a good, dry roof as quick and efficiently as we possibly can.
0:29 You can see it already has a TPO roof on it. That was probably installed 15, 16 years ago. It didn't last the full lifetime. They did some things that we wouldn't recommend doing. For instance, the scupper right here behind me, they actually had a welded seam right in the center of it and a dip before you get to the scupper. So the water that's supposed to be running through the scupper into the gutters and draining off the roof was ponding about 11 inches deep into a valley that they created because they didn't attach their insulation board the correct way. So we've tore that section up. We're going to run a continuous piece of TPO right in the middle so that there's no seam in the scupper. That should prevent future water penetration causing those leaks down the road for the customer.
1:19 There were a couple other things. You can see some of the coping metal behind me here, or actually over here, grinding off some of the fasteners into some of these chimneys. These older chimneys they capped this one, but over here, there's like four or five that weren't capped. They're inoperable. They haven't been used in 100 years. I'm not 100% certain why they didn't cap them all, but they didn't. So there was water coming in through the chimney and the mortar was just basically sand at this point. So you could just pick the bricks up and move them. So the water was just seeping straight through, getting under the liner, under the TPO. We had several pieces of insulation board that are completely saturated with water. So we're just going to fix this up.
2:05 So again, it's very important that not only do you use a quality roof application like the TPO, but that you get somebody who's going to install it for you the right way and stand behind their work with a workmanship, craftsmanship guarantee. And that's what we bring to you here at Palmetto Roofers.
